Art and video go so well together but very rarely do we find something that makes the most of both media. Zoetropes is the perfect combination of the two. It’s a video of ever-rotating discs with embroidered images and objects that come alive in motion.
As the discs rotate, digital artist Elliot Schultz takes multiple photographs that, when put together in sequence, give a subtle stop-motion effect. Citing the inspiration behind Zoetrope, he says, “Inspired by the work of Alexandre Alexeieff and Claire Parker, I aimed to guide my production process indirectly through the limitations afforded by alternative media.” Check out the complete animation below and some GIFs of the best moments!
