5 Y.O. Daughter Wrote Parents A Persuasive Letter Requesting They Change Her Name

As soon as kids learn to talk, they talk a lot. About anything and all the time. So, it’s natural that parents start to filter out certain things they say. But sometimes they are persistent in what they say, words quickly become actions, and you can’t but react.

Meet Bri, a mother, wife, and educator who has a daughter named Charlie, who recently asked to have her name changed. At first it sounded like something kids would say, but she was serious—so serious, in fact, that she even wrote a persuasive letter.

Bri is the face behind the TikTok channel @bri_mom3. Some days ago, she posted a two-part video in celebration of women’s history day where she told a story about her daughter Charlie Paige.

You see, Charlie decided at 5 years of age that she wanted to change her name from Charlie to Charlotte. But it wasn’t enough for her to simply ask. Apparently, the parents were not convinced.

But instead of begging, Charlie took initiative and did her research on how to pull it off

So, Charlie took action. She did some research on what you need to do to get your name changed: she had to go to court, pay around $200, it has to be published, and the parents have to agree to it.

First, she wrote a persuasive letter explaining why she wants to officially change her name to Charlotte. Then, she started selling friendship bracelets. Bri later found out Charlie had managed to raise a total of $150 by just doing that.

Yeah… you might guess that the rest—going to court and having it published—is going to be a piece of cake for a kid who’s that determined!

Bri went to TikTok explaining this whole situation and asking the viewers to share what they thought Bri should do. Well, several million views later, the videos went viral, which prompted Bri to share the transcript of her letter, and it’s pretty heartwarming.

Bri initially posted 2 videos explaining the situation, but once they reached 4M views, she released a third one where she read the persuasive letter

The letter read: “Dear mommy and daddy, I like it better than Charlie, Charlotte is a girl name and it’s the prettiest name ever. I don’t like Charlie, Charlotte is my passion. Love, Charlie.”

“Charlotte is a better name than Charlie, Charlotte makes me feel strong, Charlotte makes me feel independent, Charlotte makes me feel pretty, Charlotte makes me feel creative and Charlotte makes me feel loved.”

“To dad, I know you don’t want me to change my name, but can we change my name for me please.”

After all of this, mom’s on board, but they are still trying to persuade dad to allow Charlie to change her name. Dad has already made a custom backpack with her name on it, and the vast support for this decision is visible on TikTok, so it does seem like they’ve got this, but it’s not official just yet.

The videos managed to collectively gather over 4.1 million views with more than 700,000 likes and thousands of comments. This little request turned into a mini campaign to make it happen. Well, now she’s really making history!
