A Load of Crockery: A Collection of Crude But Refined Tablewares

British manufacturer SCP is showcasing a collection by British designer Max Lamb for ceramics brand 1882 Ltd. throughout the month of March. Titled Crockery, the collection consists of fine bone china tablewares and vases that look crude and rock-like but are actually refined and lightweight.

The collection starts with a 3D model that Lamb chiseled and cut out of solid gypsum (a mineral material) blocks.

The models are then used to create production molds. Each piece from the collection is slip-cast from these molds, resulting in an object that accurately captures the surface textures and cuts from the hand-carved original.

The Crockery pieces all look monolithic but are surprisingly lightweight. An internal glaze offers a sleek finish for easy cleaning maintenance but the exteriors are kept authentic.
