A Pivoting Design for a Drop-Leaf Table

Here’s an interesting take on the drop leaf table, by Portugal-based industrial designer Goncalo Campos:

“Drop-leaf tables usually have an extra leg that supports the folding top. I love mechanisms, and wanted to develop a simpler one that would not need that crutch.”

“By rotating the tabletop around an off-center pivot, it’s possible to position the fold so it aligns with the leg beams. It was tricky to find the perfect spot for the pivot so this would all work, but with a little trial-and-error we got there.”

Called Pivot, the table is in production by Habitat.
