Airbag-Equipped Pants for Motorcyclists

French company CX Air Dynamics created these airbag-equipped pants, which they call the first in the world.

They’re confident enough in their product that they had a rider slip them on, then drive into a car at 65 km/h (40 mph):

The lightweight, rainproof trousers are meant to be pulled on over regular pants when riding, and stuffed into one’s helmet when not in use. A refillable compressed air cartridge provides the propellant. “It’s resistant to shocks and abrasions, and guarantees optimal mobility, even when inflated,” the company writes. “The pleasure and sensations of the motorbike without sacrificing safety!”

As it turns out, CX Air Dynamics isn’t the only game in town—nor the most stylish. Swedish inventor Moses Shahrivar’s company, Mo’cycle, manufactures a pair of airbag-equipped jeans that reportedly took 17 years to develop.
