X-ray films aren’t exactly known for their aesthetics but that didn’t stop Matthew Cox from embroidering on them.
Philadelphia-based artist explores the contrast of X-ray films and bright, embroidered patterns. The resulting series fuses the coldness of X-ray imagery with the vibrance of playful fiction. Cox describes his intent saying, “By joining the cold, blue, medically-technical plastic of the X-ray with the colorful, decorative and tactile embroidery thread, each is removed from its original intention and creates a new entity.”
