BCXSY Looks to Inspiration in the Everyday in Reframe + Pipelines

Design collaborative BCXSY never disappoints with their design philosophy that invites people in through emotion and human experience. Today we’re sharing two furniture projects they’ve completed in 2022: Reframe and Pipelines. Both rely on elements that might be considered mundane and give them a fresh spin.

For Reframe, commissioned by DESIGNEW and designed in collaboration with MAGISTER.UT, BCXSY approached known, familiar forms as something fresh and timeless. An iconic shelf morphs into a sofa, its outlines defining parts of the seating. By rearranging the cushions the elements change. Playful colors of upholstery fabric by Kvadrat add another layer of carefully thought-out design. A side table is created by turning around an axis, both halves can then be connected for a full circle tabletop or used individually.

Steel pipes are given a fun upgrade in Pipelines. Created for Mogg, twists and turns create contemporary pieces of furniture that feel utilitarian yet exude sophistication. By minimally manipulating the steel, the material’s beauty really has the opportunity to shine. Two low tables, one square and the other rectangular, along with a wall-mounted console make up the heavy-duty collection. The rectangular table can also function as a bench. The pieces are available in textured matte-black and metallic gold lacquer. The Pipelines collection is the evolution of BCXSY’s Test Tubes, an experimental interior collection created in 2018 using brass tubes.
