We are used to seeing elaborate photo shoots of dogs and cats with their characters and emotions beautifully captured and celebrated. Belgian photographer and animal lover Vincent Legrange, though, decided to try his own take on animal photography, snapping exaggerated-drama pictures of domestic and wild animals.
Using only subtle props, a smooth light, and a dark background, Legrange challenged himself to capture the most telling expressions of his subjects. The photographer wanted to depict and stress the similarities between humans and animals, striving to capture his subjects in a seemingly calm and reflective state of mind. The layers of shades on their fur, their perky eyes and mouths, and their telltale body postures highlight the unique characters of these lovely animals and provide an emotional bridge between us and them.
