Ford’s designers have pulled a clever trick with their new Pro Access Tailgate. To make it easier to access the bed while towing something, they’ve broken the tailgate up with a center section that hinges vertically. You can quickly pull this narrower section open to access the bed, without slamming the door into whatever’s hooked up to the tow ball:

You can also use the door for some additional support for climbing into the bed:
When you don’t have anything behind you, you can open the door past 90 degrees for easier access:
And yes, it still works like a regular tailgate (power up and down, fancy).
The Pro Access Tailgate is being offered as an option on their new 2024 F-150.
