Compelling murals lure you in for a closer look at tiny narratives

Since 2008, Spanish artist David De La Mano’s haunting illustrations have crept their way across building facades in Spain, Uruguay, Norway, Argentina, Peru, Brazil and the USA. Together De La Mano and his collaborative partner Pablo S. Herrero founded ‘Movimiento Señora,’ intending to bring murals to fringe-urban and rural locations.

Almost like prehistoric cave paintings De La Mano’s flattened figures seem to record lost histories. The murals are generally black and white, allowing for a compelling play with negative and positive space. There is a specific visual vocabulary established and repeated throughout De La Mano’s work, making it tantalizing. When viewing his work, it compels you to search for the key that will unravel its mystery.
