Craft in America Premieres New Season With “PLAY” and “MINIATURES”

The Peabody Award-winning and Emmy-nominated PBS documentary series Craft in America is back for a new season with episodes “PLAY” and “MINIATURES.” Craft in America has produced 15 seasons since 2007, exploring the creative spirit of the United States through the beauty, significance, and relevance of handmade objects and the artists behind them.

PLAY” explores the intersection of play and artistry. From puppets to piñatas to unicorns, this hourlong episode reveals how artists use the tools of childhood to inspire imagination, celebration, and wonder. The featured artists and institutions are Lorena Robletto, Roberto Benevidez, Calder Kamin, Schroeder Cherry, the Cotsen Children’s Library, and the Skirball Cultural Center’s Puppet Festival and Noah’s Ark.

MINIATURES” explores the world of small objects and the artists who make them. From folk art to marionettes to tiny furniture, the artists of “MINIATURES” reveal what motivates them to work at a scale that demands masterful attention to detail. The featured artists and institutions are Mark Murphy, Alexander Girard, Leandro Gómez Quintero, Gustave Baumann, and the International Folk Art Market.

Both episodes are available for streaming now on the PBS app and online. They will air on December 29 at 9pm and 10pm (check local listings).
