Chinese startup MakaGic has developed this VS-01, a benchtop electric vise with an aluminum body. It’s wireless and rechargeable via USB-C.

Roughly the size of a DVD boxed set, it has a 125mm (4.9″) capacity and can either be tightened manually, via a knurled knob, or by using the built-in motor and programming in the clamping pressure (up to 7kg, or 15.4 lbs, of pressure). It takes standard 3-inch vise jaws, or you can download different designs for jaws from the company and 3D print them yourself.
The company also offers three accessories: An LED light, a magnifying lens and a fan, the latter for keeping soldering fumes out of your face. While it might be nice to use all three of these accessories simultaneously, there’s only a single power port for them to plug into.
The VS-01 has been successfully Kickstarted, with over $100K in pledges at press time and 21 days left to pledge. The vise runs $149 for a bare unit and $229 with the accessories.
