You probably don’t want to give your children one of Brett Kern’s amazing balloon animals – these are big kid toys. This sculpture artist creates realistic inflatable dinosaurs from fragile ceramic.
He uses a mold making process called slip-casting to give the work a realistic aesthetic that can can be reproduced over-and-over similar to toy products. His slightly translucent finish creates the perfect amount of depth to make these deceiving sculptures appear light-weight like the real thing. His subjects include all types of dinosaurs as well as a basket, a whoopee cushion installation and, my favorite, an inflatable astronaut.
