Eerie child illustrations in an invented fantasy world

Maggie Taylor’s digital collage art is like illustration that belongs to strange non-existent children’s books. Her method of producing prints is to scan objects using a flatbed scanner, then layer and manipulate the composition in Photoshop. With this process, the Florida-based artist and Yale graduate is able to weave together a cohesive narrative world where sad-looking Victorian children, insects, nature and surrealistic imagery co-exist.

Her retro collages exude dreamlike, eerie and somewhat sinister feelings all at the same time. They’re certainly more Pan’s Labyrinth than Alice in Wonderland. Thanks to her distinctive style, her works have been featured in many solo exhibitions all over the world.
