Eerie photorealistic paintings of young women stuck in a dream

Yigal Ozeri is an Israeli-born/New-York-based painter who excels at painting young women in sensual, dreamy states. At a quick glance, they look just like beautifully composed photographs, but they are actually photorealistic oil paintings. The impressive level of detail just adds to the hazy dreaminess of his works.

Ozeri’s main themes seem to be about coming of age and female friendship, and his subjects are most often long-haired women in billowy dresses among idyllic nature. At times, his imagery reminds me of the 1975 Australian film Picnic at Hanging Rock, as well as Sofia Coppola’s The Virgin Suicides.
