As 2018 draws to a close we decided to take a look back at the most popular artworks we’ve published over the last 12 months.
Although 2018 was the year Banksy shredded a painting in front of a live audience, hundreds of other incredible feats of films, art, and design have also caught our attention, including Julie Gautier’s beautiful choreographed video, the swim performance inside the world’s deepest pool, the stunning beautiful lettering made by Tri Shiba and many others.

AMA, an ode performed underwater by Julie Gautier
AMA, an ode performed underwater played and directed by deep sea diver and filmmaker Julie Gautier.
Over five minutes, the piece follows Gautier as she dances underwater. Performed in the world’s deepest pool in Italy, Gautier holds her breath for the duration of the film, only allowing herself to open her lungs when she rises to the surface at the culmination of her beautifully choreographed routine. Named “Ama”, the film draws its title from 海女, a Japanese term that refers to pearl divers and which translates literally to mean sea maiden.
The “For this is not too crude, I covered it with grace. To make it not too heavy, I plunged it in the water.”practice of ama is said to be over 2000 years old, and traditionally the women it refers to would dive without scuba gear or air tanks, making it the precursor of the modern free dive movement which Gautier is a part of.
Nemo33 – Deepest Swimming Pool

NEMO33 was designed by professional diver John Beernaerts, this unique diving center fulfills its purpose for recreation, instruction, and even for the needs of certain film production projects. The massive tubular pool is filled with 2,500,000 liters of non-chlorinated, filtered spring water kept temperate at 86 degrees Fahrenheit, and features two separate flat-bottomed areas with different depths to best simulate open water dive scenarios found in Beernaerts’ native home country of Bora Bora.

Beautiful lettering by Tri Shiba
Calligraphy came to Shiba by chance. “When I was still a graphic designer, I was given a pretty fancy pen from one of my brothers, which changed the entire my works since then. After that moment, I have chosen Calligraphy as my main career path. For writing Calligraphy, calmness and relaxation always been interested me.” he said. “Like any other arts, the art of calligraphy also needs a lot practicing. Most importantly, it is a passion and a burning zeal for the letters – If you have enough willpower along with the patience to practice, everyone can tame the most discerning pen in Calligraphy.”
Gucci Launches Instagram Account For Art Lovers
What is clear from the project is that Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele is committed to highlighting all kinds of art, and contextualizing pieces for modern eyes. Helping him is a group of critics, journalists, and artists — including Tatiana Berg, Britt Julious, Larissa Pham, and Antwaun Sargent — who are writing the captions for each post, which are edited by Kyle Chayka.

Indian Restaurant With Pink Interiors And Zebra Stripes
In northern India, the Pink Zebra is a restaurant that reminds for its colors and design of Wes Anderson movies.
The project, which has been designed by RENESA, is located inside of the oldest structures in Kanpur, a major industrial city formerly known as cawnpore. Described as a ‘concoction of design theories’, the scheme responds to the complex and contradictory architecture that populates the city. ‘The core idea was to create a hybrid rather than pure, compromising rather than clean and leave the visitor hanging in the middle of an artistic sea,’ explains the design team.
