From Malala to Sojourner Truth, and from Judy Blume to Margaret Cho, Brooklyn-based illustrator Summer Pierre has created a series of portraits for the newly released book Fight Like a Girl: 50 Feminists Who Changed the World.
Collaborating with author Laura Barcella, there are 25 of Pierre’s black and while portraits intermingled with moving stories about female activists. “Gender is a battlefield” says the book’s back cover with a tongue in cheek reference to the Pat Benatar song from the 80s.
