Finnish designer wins Northern Lighting Design Award

The fourth annual Northern Lighting Design Award has announced the top designs, selected from designs submitted across Europe. First place went to Hannakaisa Pekkala for her minimalist lamp series titled “Symmetry”. Second place went to Roee Magdassi’s series of felt-wrapped overhead lights. Yuue Studio took third place for a portable lamp series that turns on when it’s opened and off when it’s closed.

Hannakaisa Pekkala, is a student at the Institute of Design and Fine Arts in Finland. She finds inspiration in “the differences between the urban lifestyle and bare nature of Northern Finland” and uses sparseness and functionality to inform her designs.
