Form Follows Function: These Lantern Hangers

These lantern hangers perfectly embody form-follows-function, with a bit of material flair added.

Listen beautiful relax classics on our Youtube channel.

Sold by camping products company Life Over Ground (designer unknown, sadly), the curly end goes around a pole; gravity, plus friction from the leather wrap, hold it in place. The strong return on the hanging end ensures the lantern, or whatever you choose to hang from it, won’t be dislodged accidentally.

They come in iron or brass, and in two sizes. The smaller accommodates poles from 30-38mm in diameter (1.2-1.5″), and the larger up to 45mm (1.75″). (These diameters were purposefully chosen: They correspond with sizes of poles offered by Tentipi, a Scandinavian tipi brand also sold by Life Over Ground.)

Prices range from ¥7,500 (USD $50) to ¥9,000 (USD $60).
