Artist Hillary Fayle has an affinity for unconventional materials. Her series called ‘Stich work’ uses the unlikely and temporary material of tree leaves. Fayle cuts the leaves to create hollow spaces and then fills the space with elegant patterned stitching. The lines of thread, at times, reference the organic patterning found in the natural world and at other times seem to be framing the pattern of a stained glass window.
Fayle studied embroidery at Manchester Metropolitan University in England. Originally from New York State, Faye is currently enrolled in an MFA program at Virginia Commonwealth University.
