Portuguese street artist Add Fuel, aka Diogo Machado, is decorating public spaces with references to history, pop culture, and the decorative arts. In a recent project, the artist painted an electrical box to appear as if the metal shell was broken away to reveal traditional decorative ceramic tiles. Upon closer inspection, the imagery takes a disturbing twist, revealing that the elegant swirls are actually bloodshot floating eyeballs.
The illustrator’s website explains that Add Fuel is a “creat(or) of imaginary worlds, where he combines fictional characters, decorative elements, a distinctive trait, an omnipresent humor and a remarkable sense of symmetry.” The electrical box seen below was created for an Urban Art festival in Lisbon.
