Issa Megaron, a family retreat that perfectly blends with the slope of its natural surroundings.
Completed in 2017 by the team of Proarh Architects, this house is deeply inspired by the system of the Socrates Megaron (known as the first passive house), “reinterpreting the ancient traditional stone drywalls and creating a new rural man-made topography.”
The team of Proarh Architects had to deal with the difficult task of designing a temporary family retreat on a site with zero infrastructure. Hence, the house has been designed with natural cooling and ventilation systems as well as rainwater exploitation, solar panels, and other solutions that make use of natural resources. Located in the rural region of Vis, a small Croatian island, the house consists of two levels including sleeping quarters and lounge on the first floor and downstairs we can find the more open spaces with dining, kitchen, and another lounge area. The terraces consist of covered and uncovered spaces as well as a pool area. All bearing elements are made of reinforced concrete. Stones from the site were used for the cladding of the facade.
