Jay & Bey inserted into famous works of art. How they look in “American Gothic” made me laugh!

Celebrities are often portrayed as modern mythological figures who live in the real world, but possess supernatural lives. This brilliant parody series inserts everyone’s favorite hip-hop power couple into iconic works of art.

In ‘The Carter Family Portraits’ series you will find Jay-Z and Beyoncé placed into a variety of paintings like Grant Wood’s “American Gothic” or Johannes Vermeer’s “Girl with a Pearl Earring.” Placing the couple in this context simultaneously enhances their elite status by comparing them to priceless art and also brings them to an incredibly human level by showing what Jay and Bey would look like in different scenarios: old, young, poor, odd, etc. Many of these portrayed situations are way outside of the couple’s refined public image. The series is neither degrading nor complimentary to the pair, which I appreciate, but instead, it gives perspective to the humanness of superhuman icons.
