Australian illustrator Carla McRae is inspired by childhood nostalgia and Japanese design. Working from her home-studio in North Melbourne, she has applied her character-based drawings to a variety of formats including murals, zines, commissions, books, letterpress, and personal projects. Having studied design at university, her visual aesthetic pulls from the design principles of clean lines, negative space, and simple color block forms.
In an interview, the artist said, “I find that the more personal work I do, the more work I actually get for other people. They kind of feed each other.”
