“The show celebrates the merging of my present as an artist with my past as an architect”, states Marina Esmeraldo.

Through the abstract interpretation of the places of my memories, she created an installation combining mural painting and relief works, as well as a collection of wooden sculptures. “The show celebrates the merging of my present as an artist with my past as an architect”, states Marina Esmeraldo.

Within “the spirit of places”, the goal was capturing the essence of her travels, wanderlust being a recurring theme in her work. The installation is born from a snake-eats-its-tail process, consisting of wooden constructions based on paintings based on paper constructions built by the artist.

In the wooden sculptures, there is a specific logic for each angle, joint and negative space, a direct result from the experimental paper constructions.

Illustrator and artist Marina Esmeraldo is brazilian living in Barcelona, Spain. For this first collection of 3D pieces, she was inspired by Brazilian and Catalan modernist architecture, traditional Spanish villages, neoclassical architecture and the Greek isles.

She is also co-founder and art director of In Shades Magazine, an online illustrated short fiction magazine. More info about her here.
