McLaren Car Designed for PlayStation Game Makes Real World Debut

Starting with “an audacious, extreme concept sketch,” according to McLaren, their designers created their Solus GT hypercar for the PlayStation game Gran Turismo Sport in 2017.

The Gran Turismo series is known for scanning real-world cars into the game and imbuing the 3D models with the real-world cars’ physics and power. But in a strange twist, McLaren went the other way ’round, deciding to build 25 real-world Solus GTs, apparently because gamers liked the vehicle.

This month at the UK’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, McLaren showed up with a real-world Solus GT and won the Shootout event. The engine note is fantastic:

The single-seat track-only car, which boasts a 5.2-liter V-10 that makes around 830hp, runs $4 million. All 25 units have been pre-sold.
