Modern Paper-Stack Monoliths by Aleksandra Domanović

Yugoslavian artist Aleksandra Domanović makes digital prints on the sides of sculptural stacks of paper 1,500 sheets high. The forms read as modern day monuments in material but reference ancient aesthetics with their monolithic form. When assembled, the free-standing sculptures seem like singular objects, but knowing how they are constructed becomes the primary focus of these amazing works.

How does this artist print on the side of a huge stack of paper? One sheet at a time. Domanović creates massive PDF files of her desired image and sets her printer to ‘boarder-less’ printing.  She then instructs the machine to print ink on just the very edge of each sheet. The paper is collected and assembled in the impressive tall stacked forms.
