Moooi is named after the Dutch word for beautiful, the third ‘O’ in the name stands for extra value in terms of beauty and uniqueness. Helmed by Marcel Wanders and Robin Bevers, the brand is now adding outdoor furniture to its offerings with the Barani family. Designed by Valerio Sommella, Barani combines function and decoration to create an extension of your home.

Sommella looked to his past when designing Barani: practicing somersaults, tag in the garden and a sun-drenched patio with scattered metal furniture. His sketches began here and finished with no line existing for pure decoration. The Barani chairs’ base is made from two interconnected curved lines, adding stability to the structure. Look closely and you’ll see the curve resembles a somersault – the “Barani flip”.
“When designing Barani, I wanted to combine visual lightness with a new structural approach, reducing the product to two interconnected curved elements. A technical solution becomes a three-dimensional scribble. Or as I used to say, ‘I solved this project with a technical somersault’,” said Sommella.

The Barani family includes a lounge set and bistro set, made up of weather-resistant dining chairs, lounge chairs, a coffee table, bistro table and water-repellent cushions. The individual items are all available separately and can stay outdoors year-round. Every Barani piece comes with The Button, digital proof of authenticity that incorporates NFC technology and makes counterfeiting impossible.
