Nightmarish figures fling clay, wire, and paint in a state of panic

France-based Olivier De Sagazan is a multidisciplinary artist whose painting, performance and sculpture feed off and weave back into each other creating a distinct nightmarish aesthetic. He’s probably most well known for the many iterations of his performance ‘TRANSfiGURATion.’

De Sagazan’s work sheds its humanity, social niceties and language accessing an existential deep rooted animalistic core. He focuses on the archaic, fragmented, deformed and tormented resulting in a visceral, and at the same time, horrifying vocabulary.

There are also elements of ritual built into De Sagazan’s work–his layering, then whipping away of clay and other colorful elements across his body and face simultaneously indicating transformation, liberation, and deformity.
