Paul Cocksedge Invites Pedestrians To Seat On Concentric Benches At London Design Week

Designer Paul Cocksedge invites the public to seat on undulating, concentric benches from upcycled scaffolding planks with his new public installation called Please Be Seated.

Located in the heart of Broadgate, London the Landmark Project will be the most ambitious of British Land’s commissions to date.

Listen beautiful relax classics on our Youtube channel.

Just as the installation’s name requests, Please Be Seated invites people to walk under it and sit on it. The work is made from scaffolding planks, and Cocksedge has collaborated with Essex-based high-end interiors company White & White to re-imagine and re-use the building wood.

By taking this often discarded material and creating a high-end design piece, Cocksedge is demonstrating that good design isn’t just about expensive materials.

“Every single aspect of the installation is tailored to its environment as well as the function it serves,” says Cocksedge.

“Every single aspect of the installation is tailored to its environment as well as the function it serves,” says Cocksedge. “The curves raise up to create backrests and places to sit, as well as space for people to walk under, or pause and find some shade. It walks the line between a craft object and a design solution. It occupies the square without blocking it.”

The installation will be open until 11 October 2019!
