A new trend continues to sweep the internet—people are posting Captain America dad jokes and making us laugh with their cheesy puns. Captain America dad jokes started popping up and going viral in February 2020 and now there are more and more of them each day. There’s a bit of a backstory involving the four stills used for these jokes, so if you haven’t seen the Captain America or Avengers movies, beware of minor spoilers!

The stills used for the dad jokes come from two Marvel superhero movies—Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) and Avengers: Endgame (2019). In Winter Soldier, one of our fave superheroes of all time, Captain America, fights a bunch of Hydra soldiers in an elevator. But in Endgame, Cap goes back in time, the scene happens again, but this time he whispers “Hail Hydra” to Jasper Sitwell to avoid the fight altogether.

Avengers: Endgame grossed Marvel Studios nearly 2.8 billion dollars and it’s no wonder that it wants to repeat its success.
Marvel is moving onto what it calls “Phase 4” of its cinematic universe and we can expect a movie about Black Widow, an Eternals film with Angelina Jolie, a Shang-Chi movie, and a Blade reboot in the future, according to Time. Most of these movies will be released later than anticipated because of the coronavirus pandemic, though. For instance, Black Widow was supposed to come out on May 1.

Marvel Studios had been struggling until Disney bought it just over a decade ago. Before that happened, they were on the ropes and sold off the rights to their most popular and beloved characters, including Spider-Man which they sold to Sony and the X-Men which they gave to Fox.
But Disney helped bring back some of Marvel fans’ fave superheroes. Disney teamed up with Sony in 2017 to make Spider-Man: Homecoming and are set to make even more films about Peter Parker together.
Speaking of Fox, Disney bought it in 2019 and merged the Marvel and X-Men universes into one. So we’re sure that there will be plenty more great movies to come and that we’ll be seeing more of Captain America sooner or later. After all, he’s great for making dad jokes.
