With 200 million people Zooming in to see each other every day, it’s fair to say video calls are the hype of 2020. I mean, we’ve already spent more hours chatting online with friends and colleagues these past few months than we ever did. Trust me, face-to-face is so last season.

And people on the internet won’t miss a chance to get cats involved. They take a pic of a cat in an awkward position, put it in a video call frame, and add a shot of another cat stunned by the steamy pose. These pics of copycats are as hilarious as they sound, so scroll down below to check out some of the funniest screenshots. And if your feline singleton gets interested, tell him he’s being catfished.

It seems like most of the funny stuff online belongs to our beloved furry friends. Think of the internet as one giant cat park where cat pics and videos are roaming wild. But one can’t help but wonder why cats in particular seem to be everywhere on social media.

Viral expert Matt Smith, co-founder of the Viral Factory, believes it is partly because cats are so acrobatic. “Properly nourished cats and kittens love to jump and play around, and so, on a basic level, they are very entertaining to watch. They climb and balance and perform amazing feats. We are mesmerised by their agility,” he explained to The Telegraph.

If we look back, we can see that cat owners have always loved videoing and photographing their pets. This particular trend can be traced back to the ’80s with the advent of cheap, affordable cameras before the internet existed.

Matt told The Telegraph that “Back then, owners filmed their pets and would show the footage perhaps to their immediate family or a few friends, but now people share their cat videos, hoping they will become internet sensations.” One good example is this video of a cat mom hugging a baby kitten, which was viewed 60 million times on Youtube.
