PharmaJet at The Tech Awards Showcase

After identifying a need for a safe injection system, Kathy Callender
and her PharmaJet team developed a needle-free, jet injection system
that was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in
2009.

Needle re-use and needle-stick injury contribute to the global disease
burden and are at odds with the objective of providing vaccinations
for children and adults that will help their bodies create immunity to
the very same diseases. Additionally, an estimated $2 billion is spent
annually for follow-up care for health-care workers who become
infected from contact with contaminated needles.

PharmaJet’s system, designed for reliable use in diverse environments, utilizes a high-pressure fluid system, rather than a needle, to deliver injectables intramuscularly or subcutaneously. Because the system uses a single-use auto-disable syringe, cross contamination and needle-stick injuries are eliminated.
