Photographer captures 40 opera houses from 19 countries

The opera house is a building designed around the classical art form that combines drama, theater, song, orchestra, and costumes.

A new book titled, Opera, showcases over 40 photographs from opera houses around the world. The photographs by David Leventi are supported by the minimal and elegant design work of Pentagram’s Luke Hayman. The book’s publication coincides with an exhibition of large-scale photographs at the NYC gallery Rick Wester Fine Art.

It took the photographer eight years to travel to the 19 countries that are represented in the collection. He says of the architecture, “The actual performance is just a part of the overall awe-inspiring experience of going to the theater — I believe that the space itself can be the event.”
