Playful photographs transform the moon into everyday objects

‘Moon Games,’ a playful set of photographs that subvert the moon’s identity, were brought to life by astrophotographer Laurent Laveder and graphic artist Sabine Sannier. The series is a brilliant study that re-contextualizes the moon with simple props positioned at just the right angle and depth. In Laveder and Sannier’s hands the moon becomes a balloon, a reading lamp and a potted plant, amongst other things.

Sometimes they take advantage of the moon’s waxing and waning cycle appearing to cut it away or paint it. In others they challenge its weight and size, transforming the moon from a mighty celestial body into something that you want to slip in your pocket and take home with you.
