When diving deep into the history of women’s health, it becomes clear that systems within the medical field weren’t created for women’s best interests. As stated by Dr. Janine Austin Clayton of the United States National Institutes of Health, “we literally know less about every aspect of female biology compared to male biology.” Products like the speculum and hormone-centric birth control have seen little to no innovation until recent decades, and data research around women’s health is at a comparative deficit due to a historic lack of female representation in clinical trials. With this in mind, how can the design of better experiences play a role in creating solutions that speak to women’s wants and needs in healthcare?

Join Jamie Munger, Strategy Director at Smart Design, and Allison Fonder from Core77 as they welcome Maria Lalli from Ceek, Alyssa Meza from Upstream USA, and Colleen Newland from Philips for a Virtual Smart Salon on how design can address the knowledge deficit in women’s health.

We’ll discuss questions such as

– What are the medical realities of women’s health today?

– What are some immediate design challenges and opportunities, and how can designers help?

– What are some exciting technological arenas that show promise in improving the knowledge deficit in women’s health?

– Inclusive of all genders, how do we get designers more personally invested in this dilemma?
