From a distance, these patterns look like they might be created with pointilism or a similar technique. But look closely and you’ll see that they’re actually made up of thousands of people.
But it’s still not what you’d expect. Rather than getting a whole bunch of people together to stand around while being photographed from the air, the artist, Zhang Bojun, has assembled individual pictures taken over the years to create these patterns.
It’s an exploration of Chinese culture and people, in particular the “dashed dreams of life in the big city, where average workers are unable to settle”. It’s a breathtaking series of photos, both in close up and distant form.
