Robotic-floral design stadium finished for World Cup 2014

In anticipation of Fifa World Cup 2014 the international stadium designers, Populous, have just inaugurated their ‘Arena das Dunas’ in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. The stadium features a robotic-floral design that highlights the shape and size of the soccer field seen mimicked in the outline of the void ceiling.

Arena das Dunas is designed to hold 42,000 people and has 10,600 removable seats. This feature allows the stadium to accommodate the massive crowds of World Cup and the ability to scale down following the games for smaller events. The architectural design looks like it could be a huge model of a mobile technology device. The shell consists of 20 massive steel sections insulated in aluminum tiles.
