…as well as movies like “Interstellar” and “Blade Runner 2049,” Chae’s Post-Collapse collection applies the genre’s design cues to unlikely furniture creations.

­­I found some of the pieces interesting, like his stainless steel and acrylic yA-18 Stool, “in which the carved top is arranged like a reflective plate of a radar to form a vanishing point.”

Or his zS-6 Standing Light, which incorporates panels based on “mechanical sources used in the high-tech/space industry.”

He starts to lose me a bit with his yD-4 Hanger, a piece I assumed was meant to showcase a piece of art, but which is in fact designed to “show off the presence of a piece of clothing,” a single one at that.

By the time I got down to this rocket-inspired mechanical pencil holder, my attention began to wander.

That being said, it’s tough not to envy anyone who can make a living designing whatever they want, and Chae’s been at this for a few years. You can see more here.
