Spectacular, rare “microburst” captured over Phoenix

Helicopter pilot Andrew Park sighted an astonishing scene over Phoenix while photographer Jerry Ferguson managed to capture it.

A giant mushroom cloud was seen looming over the city. In reality, it’s a rare weather phenomenon called, “microburst”, which occurs when cooled air from a thunderstorm rushes to the ground and spreads at nearly 100 miles per hour creating a thunderous air current. Bryan Snider created a time-lapse video, which can be watched below, of the same microburst as viewed from Phoenix’s Sky Harbor International Airport. Check it out!
