Stuffed toys based on children’s drawings bring imagination to life. This warms my heart!

Small business, Child’s Own Studios, has a unique niche. They take children’s drawings and construct plush toys in their likeness. Seeing these simple and sometimes odd renderings in three dimensions brings a new perspective to the child’s vision.

Since launching the business in 2007, Wendy Tsao has created nearly 600 toys modeled after children’s drawings. She began by making a “stick man” toy after being moved by her four-year-old son’s self-portrait. Her young child recognized the toy instantly with its big round eyes and ten long wispy fingers.

The Vancouver artist explains, “I am inspired by the child’s drawing for many reasons, ranging from the artful simplicity in the design, to the challenge of making it turn out well, and finally, to the knowledge that creating a softie based on her own design is the coolest thing for a child to behold (and hold).”
