Surrealist embroidery never looked so good

The embroideries created by California based artist Michelle Kingdom portray an alternate reality. With some works showing more common scenes of a wedding or a teenager listening to records, other works reference a painter-like quality such as seen in the works of van Gogh or Monet.

And yet other works have a stark, dreamlike quality, such as in the piece Life Will Divide Us, where dancers stand among a flock or suspended birds. In another piece, Duties of Gossamer, a crowd of similarly dressed girls stands interwoven and interconnected as the architecture of thread that is often hidden on the back of a piece, is brought into the image itself, thus creating striking web-like line work.
