Table Joinery: A Single, Massive Wedged Tenon

For those of you unfamiliar with traditional woodworking, a wedged tenon is an old-school, no-glue-required method of locking tenons in place.

Listen beautiful relax classics on our Youtube channel.

British industrial designer Daniel Schofield made the joinery method the centerpiece of his Tenon Tables:

“Material is removed where it’s not needed leaving the base weighted and stable, this then naturally creates the joint for the top. This oversized wedged tenon becomes a focal point, highlighting the construction of the piece as well as Ercol’s quality of craftsmanship.”

I can’t tell if it’s in production or not; while Schofield cites British furniture brand Ercol above, at press time I couldn’t find the Tenon Tables on their website.
