The Ceramic Beasts of Nina de Creeft Ward

A horse head gazes something intensely without blinking. The cat, meanwhile, lies down on its back with its paws upward, seemingly having fun with an invisible force. A doe kisses the fawn beside her. All of them, however, seem to be frozen in time, as they are not real animals; they are all ceramic sculptures.

Nina de Creeft Ward’s ceramic sculptures are radical because they ask us to treat works of art as if they were pets: sensitive critters that repay our care and affection in ways that make us feel more connected to our best selves, not to mention other living things.

Check out some of her works over at the Los Angeles Times.
