The Ego Washer: an artist’s response to Instagram

In a commentary on the social media site Instagram, a Milan-based artist named Biancoshock has created an installation that he has titled “Ego Washer”. Transforming a washing machine into a large scale Instagram logo, the piece was installed in Oostende, Belgium as part of the contemporary art festival, The Crystal Ship.

“Wash your ego whiter than white”, is how the founder of the Nuart Festival commented on his own Instagram post about the piece.

Biancoshock explains that he didn’t always consider himself an artist. Reflecting on his projects as a middle ground between activism and performance art, he created the genre that he calls ephemeralism  which he describes as having “the purpose of producing works of art that have to exist briefly in space but limitlessly in time through the photography, the video and the media.”
