Lighting brand Gantri and industrial designer Sam Gwilt have released a table lamp with an unlikely source of inspiration: curtains. The plant-based, 3D printed Encore explores the effects of lighting and the emotional experience that accompanies theater curtains raising before a show. There’s a warm feeling that accompanies the anticipated act, and Gwilt wanted to capture that feeling. The shade’s exterior features a rippling effect layered atop a geometric base, while a double exposed diffuser guarantees versatile use of the statement piece. Experimenting with static objects that simulate motion is one of Gwilt’s ongoing focuses. Encore is currently available in Stone, Coral and Canyon colors.
