The Serengeti Collection Is as Uniquely Timeless as Its Namesake

In their first-ever collaboration, designer and architect Philippe Starck and JANUS et Cie have released a high-class outdoor dining and lounge series: the Serengeti Collection. The outdoor furniture brings together timeless elegance with natural elements worthy of its namesake in the Tanzanian savanna.

“I live in the middle of nowhere, in the middle of the mud, of the sand, of the forest,” says Starck. “I dreamed of furniture that Nature could love, accept, integrate. Different, personal, original, but timeless furniture that we could have found there, as is it, abandoned by elegant people. Furniture made with real wood, in the middle of the woods. But above all, which, like certain magical objects, although immobile, transports you back to other times, to other places, to other dreams. This is the reason why the Serengeti collection exists.”

Clean lines and deep cushions are the most forthright features of the design scheme. Frames are constructed of sanded teak with peg joinery, powder-coated aluminum, and sturdy canvas mesh. A favorite piece in the Serengeti Collection is the two-seat sofa with a high back and integrated awning, a beautiful solution to providing sun protection outdoors in a stylish manner. Crafted for durability and longevity, this collection is sure to create a cherished location wherever it’s placed.

The Serengeti Collection comprises eight pieces: an armchair, a rectangular dining table, a lounge chair, an ottoman, a 2-seat sofa, a 2-seat sofa with canopy, a rectangular cocktail table, and a square side table. Colorways are offered in Gazelle, Horizon, and Tusk for the armchair, and Gazelle for the lounge chair and two-seat sofas. Cushions are available in the full range of JANUS et Cie’s outdoor-friendly textiles.

“This collaboration has been an extraordinary opportunity to share in Starck’s vision of a distinctively nature-inspired collection forged in excellence at all stages of development to withstand the elements and be enjoyed for generations to come,” said Carolina Zhang, Vice President of Product Development for JANUS et Cie. “He worked in concert with our team to bring his vision to reality by sourcing the very best materials, engineering with precision, and rigorously testing for endurance.”
