The Wearable Shelter

10 students of design from the London’s Royal College of Art made a jacket that converts into a tent, and sleeping bag. Created for Syrian refugees, the jacket is made out of Tyvek, a tear-resistant material. The jacket is also waterproof and reportedly breathable and thanks to Mylar insulation, retains body heat when slept in.

The prototype is still in the works and experimentation is on-going with differing materials. The team of students are trying to see if a kite pole might work into the jacket for the sake of building a stronger tent frame and they are also experimenting with inserting inflatable designs into it. The project is currently featured on Kickstarter.
