This Modular Sofa Is Inspired by the Japanese Art of Origami

At this year’s Stockholm Furniture Fair, design and art studio Front and European Furniture Group (EFG) debuted Ori, a modular sofa system that encapsulates the minimalist and geometric beauty of Japanese origami. Ori’s five modules can be used individually or configured together to fit any room in both home and contract spaces. Like paper folding, the visual allure of Ori is its pleated structure. It imbues a calmness that comes in the visual of perfect symmetry which can be seen from every angle.

Front is known for experimenting with visual styles, so the designers began the design process by exploring folded paper models. From there, they developed a sofa that features organic shapes and symmetrical pleated embellishments. The recessed wooden base further enhances the sofa’s overall profile by maintaining the focus on the more complex structure.
