This unlikely see-saw table requires dinner for two

Integrating see-saw seating into a picnic table, Dutch designer Marleen Jansen has created a new dining experience that requires the active participation of both diners.

A meal could be shared with playful tottering, each diner grabbing a spoonful of soup in rhythm with the bench’s movements. However, when there is discord or disagreement between the diners, one person getting up from the table can leave the other in a disastrous state.

Jansen attended the School of Arts, St. Joost in Breda, Netherlands where she learned to integrate concept into her designs. In this project, she answered the question: “How to prevent people from walking away from the table whilst having dinner?” In her solution, “If one leaves the table, the other diner ends up on the floor.”
